Our Week In Review

We had a very busy week getting ourselves back into our routines!  The students did a great job jumping right back into learning!

On Tuesday we had an all school meeting.

During math, we have been learning about geometry concepts.  We reviewed area and perimeter, learned about symmetry, and began to use protractors to measure angles.  We will continue this learning next week, and have an assessment scheduled for Thursday. Students brought home a study guide this week.

During Reading, we have continued to read about Ivan, the shopping mall gorilla.  We have enjoyed this story, and have spent time focusing on characters changing over time.  Our focus is on making a claim and then finding evidence to support our thinking.  We will finish reading this book next week, and will celebrate the following week.

We traveled to the West region during Social Studies this week.  We will continue learning about the west next week.

During Technology Workshop, we have been working on writing scripts and recording videos to share information with other fourth graders.  We will be working on this for one more week.

We are grateful to the JFK PCC for funding "Sam, Sam the Science Man".  He came to JFK and taught our students about light and waves as well as other physical science concepts.  This was a highlight for many of our students.

Way to Go!

Congratulations to this ladybug for working hard and persevering this week!  Awesome job!

Dancers of the Week!

Our Week In Review

What a week we have had in room 24!

In math we have been working on geometry. We learned a variety of vocabulary, and we have worked on some real world problems.  Finding area and perimeter was a bit challenging for many students, and we will continue to work on this after vacation.  Check us out making quadrilaterals with our bodies!

During reading we have continued to read about Ivan the gorilla and his friends Bob and Stella.  This book brings up wonderful conversations, and allows the students to dig deep into comprehension in a meaninful way.  We have enjoyed making animal observations throughout this unit, and particularly enjoy watching the silverback gorilla at the Houston Zoo.  Check him out here!  We continue to give book talks to share the books we love.  Ask your child if he/she has given one  yet!

During writing we have been working on telling stories from different points of view.  In addition we looked at the MCAS practice test this week.  This allows the students to see the various types of questions they may encounter during the MCAS testing sessions.

In SS we finished our travels to the midwest region, and took our test on Thursday. Most of the students did very well.  Be sure to ask your child about his/her grade, and check it out in Google Classroom!  After vacation, we will travel to the WEST region.

Check out this ladybug!  He taught us all a little about Cambodian New Year!  Way to go!

We had a visitor this week, FLAT JOSIE came all the way from Atlanta to check out a school in Massachusetts!

During Creative Arts Friday this week, we finished our National Park presentations and shared them with our class!  We have been working on script writing, to get ready to record our videos during Technology Workshop, and we learned how to write limericks during Poetry with Mrs. A.
