Hades by Harsha

There once was a man named Hades

he kidnapped this harvest lady

Persephone had a wish

and she could not eat a dish

instead she ate a seed

and now she could not even leave

so Hades made a deal

even if she's eaten a meal

What a brother of the big three

Hades by Brendan

Hades is the god of spirits and dead

and all of his clothes are dark red

when he gets mad or sad,

he will make someone suffer really bad.

You could say he is the meanest of them all,

but that would only make him give you a phone call.

Harlem Wizards come to Kennedy

The Harlem Wizards will be playing a game against local faculty at Tri-County High School tonight. The doors open at 6 PM and your child is bringing home information about it. If you are interested, and need to buy tickets at the door, it is recommended that you arrive by 6 PM to get the tickets. Here are a couple of videos of their visit today.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Today was a fun day! A LOT of people at Kennedy School wore green.

First, when we came into school this morning, there was a leprechaun in the lobby! She was dancing around. Then she came up to our room and danced with some kids, right here. We figured out it was Mrs. Bradley!

We got to vote on how we want to use our bonus points using the class clickers and the Smart Board. We voted on an ice cream party. Stay tuned for a request for donations!

We also got to use the clickers to answer some survey questions for the student council.

Then, we shared how to put the penny on our leprechaun. Rory showed us how to take the string off the leprechaun and Bekah showed us how to put it back on. It was harder than we thought it would be.

After that, we gave our speeches. Everyone did a great job pretending to be a leprechaun!

Then we got to have our GOLD MEDAL recess! What a beautiful day for an extra recess.

When we came in from recess, we finished our speeches, did some reading and then social studies.

During lunch recess it was so nice out. Some people learned some jump rope tricks from Mrs. Merten.

After recess, we did a little bit of writing and then we all went into the gym to learn an Irish Step Dance from Mrs. MacMurray. The leprechaun (a.k.a. Mrs. Bradley) joined us too!

The day was topped off with VERY LITTLE HOMEWORK! Enjoy the nice weather.

Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz comes to JFK

Today, Meteorologist Kevin Lemanowicz from FOX 25 news came to our school. He talked about different types of weather, how weather works, and how the "green wall" works when giving a televised weather forecast. He graciously answered almost all of our questions (and there were a LOT of questions!)

During tonight's news, Kevin will play a video of our fourth graders. The newscast begins at 6, and our tape should air around 6:15. If you miss the airing, it can be seen on FOX25's website after about 6:30. Go to this site, and then look at the weather page. You'll find us here!

Our Week In Review

ALGEBRA/Math

This week we learned more algebra in math. Mrs. Y came to our class and we got to work with number cubes, pawns and balances. We did such a great job, that Mrs. Y. gave us algebra homework. Our parents were impressed!

Mrs. Y came again and worked on Open Responses. We were hoping to earn the "4 on the door". Although we haven't earned it, Mrs. Y. said we are working harder and harder and it is just a matter of time.

In math we also started unit 8 this week. We learned about perimeter and started learning about area today.

Art

In Art, we've been learning about African masks. This week we got to paint masks that we made ourselves. The masks were symmetrical.
Music
This week a LOT of kids got their purple belts in Recorder Karate. Some kids got their blue belts and some even got their BLACK belts. Keep practicing your recorder to earn a new belt!

Science

In science we learned about humidity, dew and the water cycle. Some of this information was review. Next Thursday, we have a quiz on humidity. We also will have a special guest visiting fourth grade to help us learn more about weather. Look for information about this next week!
