Our Week In Review

We started off this week in an awesome way!  Tie Dye Tuesday was a huge success.  Many thanks to Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Bullers-Shah, and Mrs Mayo for helping us with our shirts.  The tangerine orange will look awesome when we are all wearing our shirts.

We have continued to learn about Geometry, and have started to measure angles using a half circle protractor. This is a skill that will take some time to master.  Everyone is working really hard on this. Our assessment will be next Thursday.

We are moving right along in Charlotte's Web, and Mrs. Merten is really, really enjoying listening to us read in the Reader's Theater way.  We have been thinking deeply about the characters in this book.

In Social Studies, we have just about finished our tour of the West Region.  We took advantage of the empty gym this week, to work on our SS in the cool gym.  We will be showing what we've learned on our test next Wednesday.  Miss Farrell has created these flashcards and games to help practice states and capitals.  Give them a try!

Our Week In Review

Wow! The last few weeks have absolutely flown by.  I can't believe we have reached Memorial Day Weekend! The last few weeks have seen the start of beautiful spring weather, and the end of PARCC testing.  We are excited and ready for the last month of school!

In Math we have been working on our Geometry Unit.  We have learned about different types of shapes and angles.  We have also been solving some pretty challenging word problems. The children have been working on the math practice of  "Perseverance" and are doing a great job.  Remember that the pearsonrealize.com website is an excellent resource for helping with homework.

These videos from Brainpop Jr. shows some of our vocabulary we've been learning.

In Reading, we began a new Interactive Read Aloud, Charlotte's Web.  This book is filled with all of the skills we have learned this year.  Students have been working on their read aloud skills through Reader's Theater.  We are also looking at character's actions, what motivates them, and the author's message. Such high level thinking skills for fourth graders, and they're doing great!

We have continued to publish the many forms of poetry we have written this year.  This week we have been working on free verse poems in the style of Douglas Florian. We even had the chance to paint like him!

We finished our unit on Weather today with our test!  You may have heard about our fun way to review for this test... a KAHOOT! Our next Science unit will be studying Electricity.

In Social Studies we continue to make our way through the U.S. with a stop in the West Region.

We were able to use our SS skills once again this week, when we had a Mystery Skype with fourth graders from Georgia!  We were all surprised that they finished school this week!

Looking Ahead ~
Our shirts are tied, and ready for Tie Dye Tuesday next week!  We are very excited to dye our shirts ORANGE.

Congratulations to our Terrific Teamwork Teams
