Our Week In Review

What a week we had!  The weather was fabulous, and the children enjoyed a wonderful week filled with poetry.

In Reading over the last few weeks, we listened to Love That Dog and Hate That Cat, both by Sharon Creech.  We loved these books for so many reasons!  Both books are written in poetry form, and also with only ONE voice in the stories- that voice of Jack, a student writing in his poetry notebook.  We had rich discussions about point of view, and about the relationship between students and their teachers.

We worked at finishing up our expert pieces, and many different types of poetry this week.  We will be looking through our original poems over the next few weeks, in order to choose the perfect poem for our Poetry Coffeehouse.

We also were lucky enough to share 3 hours with our Poet in Residence, "Ms. Liz".  Ms. Liz took all of us on a poetry journey this week.  I hope you heard about her from your child.  If not, look for some original poetry in the next few days.  Ms. Liz will return for our Poetry Coffeehouse.  We are always thankful to our Kennedy PCC for funding this awesome program.

Today we said goodbye to our student teacher, Miss Cote.  We gave her a card, some books for her first classroom and some beautiful flowers (thanks Katie).  Miss Cote will graduate from Framingham State University next week.

We wrapped up our study of the midwest this week with our assessment.  The students did really well!  We will begin learning about the west region next week.

From the Teacher's Desk
Thank you!  This week was Teacher Appreciation week, and boy did I feel appreciated!  What a wonderful week to be a teacher.  From the delicious treats in the teacher's room, to the gift cards, to the flowers, it was a wonderful week. The notes and poems that I received from the students truly touched my heart.  I love to read their words and see myself through their eyes. If you sent something in through the PCC, sent flowers or cards to school, or encouraged your child to write a note to me, thank you.

Today your child brought home two notes.  One contained important information about Tie Dye Tuesday. The other was a list of upcoming dates for the fourth grade.  You can view these notices here ~
