T-Shirt of the Day

Way to Go!

Also to our dancers of the week...

Our Week In Review

Fall has arrived!

Students continue to share the books they love through Book Talks.  Everyone enjoys hearing what their friends like to read, and students are working hard to find books they love.

We prepared for our Social Studies test by playing "Ring that Bell" with Mrs. Williams' class. We had loads of fun.  Many of the students used the Quizlet to prepare as well, and were very prepared for this test.  Mrs .Merten was very proud!  Way to go!

We also had a math quiz on patterning.  The mathematicians worked hard on this!

We continue to build our classroom community. We have been working on setting positive intentions for each day ~ What will we do to make today a great day?

We finished our first Interactive Read Aloud, Mr. Popper's Penguins, and we celebrated today with  book themed "Black and White" activities.  We participated in many cross curricular activities in math, writing, reading, science, word study and art. Check out our live broadcast of our vocabulary/character pictionary game with Mrs. A. Williams' class. Many students said Black and White Day was the highlight of their week!

Our Week In Review

It was another great week in room 24!  The children have been working to share their love of reading through 'Book Talks'.  We try to tweet out our book talks, and tag the author of the book when possible.  Sometimes we have heard back from the authors!  Follow us on twitter @mertenladybugs to see our tweets each day!

This week we discussed what we LOVE about our specialist classes. Students wrote notes to these teachers.  Here are our initial ideas.  The letters were very thoughtful!

During math, we discussed how to know what we should study, and how to prepare for our assessment.  We looked at our work from the unit, and then found problems in our enVisions book that would help us to review.  We will continue to learn about how to reflect on our work and use that information to prepare for assessments as the year progresses.

During writing, we have been working on ways to revise our work by adding prepositional phrases and transition words.  We worked together to improve Mrs. Merten's writing, and are working to revise our Narratives.  We hope to have our narratives published this week.

Thanks to this family for sharing their tradition of Diwali!  Check out earlier blog posts for more photos from this wonderful experience!

Dancers of the Week!

We have been using latitude and longitude to find exact location.  We will have our test on this topic on Tuesday.  Students received a study guide last week.
