Our TWO Weeks in Review

The last two weeks have been very busy in room 24!

In Science, we have been exploring the topics of erosion, weathering and deposition.  Our scientists have designed explorations and observed changes in land.  We will continue with Earth Science after vacation, looking at fossils and completing a STEM challenge.

In Reading, we have been looking at different structures of nonfiction texts.  Students have been enjoying this work, noticing the variety of types of nonfiction texts that we have in our room.  This has connected with Science - we read about the Giant Squid and created a two page spread.  Your child can share about this activity!  This nonfiction reading has also connected to Social Studies.  We have been reading about Canada, exploring different features found in our book about our neighbor to the north.  We  have been learning about the geography, climate and history of Canada, and after break, we will continue to learn about the natives in Canada, called First Nations.

Students have finished learning division, and we spent the week practicing this skill.  Division is something that the children will be practicing off and on throughout the year. After vacation we will begin work with fractions.

In addition to our nonfiction writing about squids, students have written fiction stories.  We will be sharing this with each other after vacation. Your child is able to share his/her writing electronically through google. After we share, students will bring home their published writing.

We enjoyed hearing our speeches this week.  Each student received positive feedback from our class as well as one area to focus on for the next speech (in March).

Students also enjoyed creating a winter craft with Mrs. A.'s class and attending our all school meeting. We loved meeting Ben Franklin!
