Our Week In Review

After a wonderful vacation, we jumped right back in to learning!  We have continued our study of Fractions this week.  We are working to make the connection between fractions and decimals, and the students are doing a great job understanding this.

In reading, we have been studying Greek Mythology.  The students have enjoyed reading different myths in class and at home.  We will be extending our learning in the next few weeks, to discuss different figurative language that comes from mythology (for example  ~ Herculean effort).  Keep checking back to our blog for some Mythic Warriors videos about some of the myths we read!

Amulet #7 was published!

On Wednesday we celebrated World Read Aloud Day with our new first grade buddies from Mrs. Kolodny's class.  We chose a picture book to read to our friends and then we each painted a watercolor picture of the story.  We loved reading to our friends and sharing our favorite books!  Check out this slideshow of our artwork!

In writing this week, we have worked hard to finish (or almost finish) our essay drafts.  We will finish our revising and editing next week, and will publish these!  As your child about his/her work.  You will be able to see the finished product in Google Drive.

We also learned a lot about adjectives and how using them improves your writing. We watched this fun video to help us remember the function of adjectives.

We started learning about clouds and wind in science this week.  There is so much to learn about Weather!  We will have a special visitor in the next few weeks who will talk about her career in weather.  Stay tuned for more information!

We continued our travels across the United States with a stop in Washington, D.C.  During technology time today, we learned how to use the resources linked from our blog (under 'Curriculum Links") to gather facts, and we made some lists.  We will have a technology working time next Friday, and will have 2 sessions during this week to look in some school resources about monuments.  Students are encouraged to work on their research at home as well.  We will make the paper booklet next week, so the students can get started on their final copy.

In addition, we were able to Skype with TWO fourth grade classes from across the U.S.A. this week.  We met students from Alabama and from Virginia.  Mrs. Merten and Mrs. Williams are VERY impressed with our geography skills!
