Engineering Challenge #1

As part of the wrap up of our interactive read aloud, Snow Treasure, by Marie McSwiggan, we will be participating in various engineering challenges this week.  The first, the Snowman Cup Challenge took place today.

This was their first design!

Teams of 2 had to use a package of styrofoam cups (51 per pack).  Each cup had to have a snowman face on it.  The challenge was to create the tallest tower.  Our tallest was 5 feet 1 inch! That was taller than all of the children. The children practiced their collaboration skills (and had to be patient with one another), They also practiced the engineering process with the steps of  Design, Create, Test, Redesign.  There was a lot of redesigning going on today.

The tallest tower!  5 ft. 1 in.

Second design ~ not sure this was taller !

During indoor recess, some of the students tried a different way to stack the cups!
