US Expo

Yesterday, we had our US Expo. The students did an excellent job sharing their portfolios. They were all so proud of the work that they accomplished.
Some first graders wrote paragraphs about what they learned when visiting the Expo. We loved hearing their writing. It was a great day all around!

Our Recorder Show

Today was our recorder karate show! The children did very well, and we all enjoyed listening to them play their recorders. These are two videos of the children playing (and singing)! I hope you enjoy "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" and "Starburst".

Learning about Electricity and Math ~ and Remembering Our Friend, Patty

Remembering Patty

Today we will be remembering our beloved custodian, Patty, with a picnic and garden ceremony. This is just what she would have loved- celebrating her life. The view outside our classroom window has changed- we now see a beautiful garden dedicated to Patty. Check back later this week for more pictures of today's celebration.

Learning Math and Electricity

We started learning about magnetism and electricity in science, and about volume in math. Both of these units are enjoyed by the students, largely because they are able to actually try the things we are learning about. Later this month we will be making circuits and electromagnets. Look for follow up photos as we continue to learn about these topics.

Don't Forget
  • T-shirts should be in school tomorrow so that we can tie them and have them ready for Tie-Dye Tuesday next week
  • Please send in your child's hands-on project tomorrow. We need the projects here to set up for the US Expo, which is Thursday morning.
  • Don't forget our US Expo, this Thursday from 9-10:15. People attending will walk through the cafeteria and the gym, to observe the portfolios of all of the fourth graders.
  • Please make plans for getting your child's hands-on project home this week. We cannot have the projects left in school, due to the fire code.
Thank you!

Spring Has Sprung

Today we really celebrated the END of MCAS! We got an extra 15 minutes outside for recess. We had a really fun time, and we even ran into some kindergarten friends. Then we got to have some delicious ice cream cones, courtesy of Alexis and her mom Mrs. J. We loved getting such a nice treat on a warm and sunny day.

Social Studies Update:
Today our last US Regions projects were due! We are all relieved and happy we are finished. We know we'll be very proud when we share our portfolios at the US Expo next week. We also finished reading about the US Regions this week. After we shared our posters, everyone in our groups were able to take at least one poster home with them. Three students shared their hands on projects today. We learned a LOT about the Grand Canyon and about the Alamo. The projects were all excellent!

This week we almost finished reading Charlotte's Web. We are really enjoying this story, especially when we are able to read it using Reader's Theater. We have enjoyed pretending to be Charlotte, Wilbur and Templeton. Next week we will be able to watch the movie Charlotte's Web, and then we'll compare it to the book. We can't wait!

In math, we are learning about three dimensional shapes. It was a busy week.
