Thanksgiving and our Week In Review

The last week has been filled with many wonderful opportunities to learn and grow!

We wrapped up our Picture Book Month celebration with books read by Miss Farrell and Mrs. Adams.  We really loved listening to each of the teacher's reading style!  On Monday, we had the wonderful opportunity to Skype with TWO published authors.  We enjoyed talking with Michael Shoulders, author of many books.  He is going to send us class copies of T is for Titanic!  Mr. Shoulders said "I never said it was going to be easy, I said it would be worth it!"  What a powerful statement!

The same afternoon, we had the opportunity to Skype with Tara Lazar!  She wrote Little Red Gliding Hood.  Tara even read her book to us!  During both visits, we asked wonderful questions and learned about the writing process.  One interesting thing we took away from both authors was that even published authors ask friends for help!

To wrap up Picture Book Month, we have photos of two of our students reading picture books!

We also had the opportunity to create our Thankful Wreaths!  We hope you love reading the things we are thankful for.

Today we gave our speeches!  It was obvious that we had all practiced!  Look for another opportunity to speak in front of the class this December!

We enjoyed Pajama Day today!

Upcoming Units:
After Thanksgiving Break, we will begin to study Weather in Science and Canada in Social Studies.  In math, we will begin learning division.  Practicing math facts will continue to be an important part of your child's homework.  We will continue to read Little Dog Lost during Reader's Workshop, and during Writer's Workshop, we will start to write fiction stories!

Our Week In Review

Despite having Wednesday off we had a very busy week!

In Science we have  been learning about Heredity.  We really enjoyed looking at pictures of our ancestors and comparing our traits.  We also enjoyed looking at each others inherited traits.

In Social Studies we have continued to learn about Mexico.  We will have an assessment next week. Students were given a study guide on Tuesday.

During Reading, our focus has been learning about non-fiction texts.  We looked at several, and have been reading non-fiction texts about Mexico.

In Math, we have been working on learning to multiply using "window boxes".  The students are doing a GREAT job learning this skill.  Fact practice continues to be very important.  Below is are two videos  that may help with this skill in the next week.

Our Picture Book Palooza continued this week, with a reading of Interrupting Chicken   by David Ezra Stein.  Check out one of our students reading at home!  Remember, if you read a picture book at home, please send in a picture!

Check out these AWESOME t-shirts!
