Tie Dye Tuesday

Tie Dye Tuesday was a HUGE success!  The children brought home washing instructions today.  We would love them to wear the shirts to a variety of fourth grade events, which we listed on the washing instructions.  Thank you , thank you, thank you to the volunteers!  We truly appreciate the hard work and time spent helping us with our shirts.

Thank You!

Our Week In Review

We have been working hard in room 24!  The warm weather has arrived, but that hasn't slowed us down!

During math, we spent the last week reviewing our concepts from the year.  This week we had PARCC testing in mathematics on Wednesday and Thursday.  We have 2 more days scheduled next week (Wednesday and Thursday). The children worked hard to do their best work, and many commented that they even enjoyed it!

During science, we have continued learning about Magnetism and Electricity.  This week we learned about static electricity.  Check out these students who did our extra credit static electricity experiment! Way to go!!!

We have been working hard on all of our poetry, in order to get ready for our Poetry Coffeehouse. This week, we created water color art inspired by poet and artist Douglas Florian.  The children are writing free verse poetry inspired by their paintings.   Our Coffeehouse time is 9:45-10:30.  We hope to see you all there!

We have continued reading Charlotte's Web.  This is always a favorite of the children, and a perfect book to read during the last few months of school.  The children have been doing some deep thinking around the characters' motivation, and the author's purpose.  This week, we also reviewed the concept of foreshadowing and have been looking for evidence of this in the story.  We have read this book differently, using a Reader's Theater format.  Your child can share more about this!

We used our inferring skills to create birth announcements for Wilbur (the pig).

Our travels across the country have taken us to the West Region of the United States.  We are working on Google presentations about different aspects of the this region.  There will be no test in this region, however the children may want to practice and learn the states and capitals for the Amazing Race in a few weeks.  Here is a link to a Quizlet with electronic flash cards with all states and capitals.  This will help when practicing for the Amazing Race!

On Monday morning, we met with the other fourth graders for our weekly meeting.  Our mantra this week was "Make it Count."  There were lots of ways we did that this week!  We wrapped up our week with our fourth grade friends again, learning about tying our t-shirts.  We can't wait to see how our designs look next week on Tie Dye Tuesday!  Stay tuned for pictures next week!

During science we began learning about Magnetism and Electricity! We have started to explore Magnetism and Electricity!  We really enjoyed learning about magnets and exploring all they can do! Next week we will begin building circuits!

During math we wrapped up our Geometry unit, and tried out some fun angle measuring games on the chromebooks.  This week we reviewed some of the math concepts we learned earlier in the year.  We are impressed by how much we remember!

During Poetry Workshop we have been working on some interesting forms of poetry. Your child can tell you about Forgiveness Poems and Best Part of me poems!

Rock Poetry Day was a BLAST!  Check out our playlist here.
