Our week was filled with many fun activities! Since this was Read Aloud week, we enjoyed hearing a read aloud over the intercom each day (even Mrs. Merten got into the act!). We also got to hear many read alouds in class. During Reader's Workshop, we enjoyed learning about myths, and had the opportunity to read a few already! We will read more myths next week.
We all finished our essays and also wrote an essay about heroes. We have discussed this topic a lot, and we watched videos and read articles online about this topic as well. We used the chromebooks for this assignment and typed our responses.
In math, we have started to discuss multiplication of fractions, and the connections between fractions and decimals. This new topic will take some time to master, but the children have done a nice job so far. Remember that the enVision text is available online. In addition, we watched this quick video about place value. The children may enjoy watching it, and it may help with place value of decimals.
Rockin' the Standards- Place Value
Wednesday was World Read Aloud Day! Miss Golden's second graders came to our room and we enjoyed reading with them and then painting some pictures. Mrs. Merten put pictures of our activities into this slideshow. You may need to hit the "present" button at the top of the screen to view the presentation in present mode. Feel free to comment on the blog or in the presentation if you'd like!
A few of our students completed an extra credit science project about evaporation! Well Done! Here are a few photos of the experiments.
From the Teacher's Desk
The students have a few assignments which are "long term". We have discussed not waiting until the last minute, and it seems that the children have been working diligently. A great strategy for planning is to set up a calendar, and to break the assignment down into manageable parts, with clear "due dates". This may help your child manage his/her time. If you or your child would like help with this, please let me know.
