Summer Fun #2

Hello Friends!
I hope you have been relaxing and enjoying your summer vacation!  I have been!  I have enjoyed reading many books, and relaxing.  I hope you are reading, too!  Mrs. Williams challenged me to read a book a day this summer. That's 66 books!  I have been really trying, and so far I have read 21 books!  How many books have you been reading?

Here's what I'm reading now.

This week I have been relaxing and reading at the beach.  Can you guess where I am?  You may have learned about this location when you studied Massachusetts in third grade.

Here are some pictures and hints~

  • This location marks the location of the first encounter between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans. While the Mayflower remained in Provincetown, Captain Miles Standish and his party explored along Cape Cod Bay. While camped here they were surprised by a Native American Tribe- the Nausets.  (It is NOT Plymouth Rock).

  • In addition to the site of the first encounter, this town is one of the towns of the National Seashore. (click on the link to help you)

What are you up to this summer?  Share in the comments.  If you would like to post, follow the directions on the right.  I'd love to hear from my old and new friends!

Summertime Fun!

Hello Friends,
I hope you are enjoying your summer vacation, and reading, reading, reading!  Mr. Merten and I just came back from a fun weekend, exploring some sights in the United States.  We visited some places that we learn about in fourth grade, and some that we may not discuss, but are very important in our study of the Regions of the United States.  Some are easy to guess, and some are more challenging.  If you know where we are, please comment below (include the number of the photo).  I've left some hints for you.
#1
This is kind of easy!  We took a ferry to this spot to see this sight.  It was a gift from France to the United States.  This landmark was dedicated in 1896.
#2
These two pictures (above and below) were taken at the same location.  This was a very somber memorial. Though we don't talk about this specifically, it is a very important place in the history of the United States.

#3
Here we are at "The Gateway to America". This is where immigrants entered the United States, and was our nations busiest immigration inspection station from 1892-1954.  We had to take a ferry here, too.

Take a chance, and guess where we are!  Remember to use the directions for "How to Leave a Comment" on the side panel (FIRST NAMES ONLY).  I can't wait to hear from you.

I hope you are doing a lot of reading this summer.  If you are looking for some book recommendations, check out Mrs. Williams' blog by clicking here or on the apple image on the right toolbar.
