Mining Like the 49ers
What a day! The last week is filled with fun activities to wrap up our year. Today we continued with a Social Studies theme. We worked in stations with all of the fourth grade teachers. We learned about the National Parks through a Power Point presentation with Mrs. Adams. Next we played states and capitals bingo. Then we mined just like the 49ers. Mrs. Merten tried to get pictures of everyone, but may have missed someone. It was really busy! We all got to take home gems! While we were mining, we watched a video about the National Parks. After all of that Social Studies, we wrapped up our writing and poetry while we shopped at our class store for the last time! Remember we are shopping at the school store tomorrow.

Amazing!!!!
The Amazing Race was AMAZING!!!! The weather was perfect, and everyone had a wonderful time! Many, many thanks to all of the parents who came to help us today, specifically Mrs. Cuneo, Mrs. Hendricks, and Mr. O'Connor! We could not have had such a great day without their help (and the parents from the other classrooms)! Thank you also to the PCC who generously funds the supplies for this day!
During the Amazing Race, children worked in teams (just like the TV show) to complete challenges and "pit stops". Sportsmanship was at its best! For each region of the US, students had to match states and capitals, and put them in alphabetical order. Then came the challenges! We enjoyed lassoing cows, finding gold nuggets, shucking corn (they are all experts now), building sand castles and participating in a "Native American Foot Race". We also learned about Martin Luther King, Jr. and his march on Washington, D.C. Most of the pictures are of the Southwest and West stations, as that was where Mrs. Merten was working. Your child will have much to share about this awesome experience, and about the stations not pictured.
