What a week we have had! It has been very busy!
We began the week with an instrument demonstration on Monday. Students in fourth grade had the opportunity to sign up for music lessons through the FPS. We enjoyed learning about the various string and wind instruments.
During both Math Workshop and Reader's Workshop, we continued to work on establishing the routines of our class. We discussed the 8 math practices and how these practices will be applied in our learning. Students have been reviewing multiplication facts, while learning various strategies that will help them with more challenging multiplication tasks later this year. Below are the 8 mathematical practices for your information.
The students have been doing a wonderful job with acclimating to the expectations of fourth grade. As they know, this year's focus will be independence and responsibility.

Today we participated in our first "Poetry/Technology Workshop"! Students worked on creating Biopoems with Mrs. Williams during poetry workshop. During Tech Workshop we learned about Google Drive, and signed into our Google accounts. Students received a BLUE letter today which explains the use of Google Drive at JFK. The students are looking forward to this!
In addition to Poetry/Technology Workshop, on Fridays we also have Art with Mrs. Hess. We are lucky to have such a wonderful art teacher here at JFK. Today the children learned about the artist Andy Goldsworthy. They then participated in the collaborative art project. I am sure you will be as impressed as their teacher is!

There is a Parent Information Session scheduled for Wednesday. There are two sessions, one from 3-3:30 and the second from 3:35-4:05. I am looking forward to meeting parents then!
