Check out these videos!
We have been learning about pronouns during our reading / writing time. Below is a familiar video that we have watched in class. Take some time and watch it again, it will help you remember exactly what a pronoun is!
We also watched these 2 videos about Shirley the elephant. What an awesome real world connection to Ivan! You can see Shirley now at the Elephant Sanctuary here!

Our Week In Review (And Ivan Day)
Well, this week really flew by! We had the chance to wrap up ALMOST all of our units!
Today we celebrated our latest interactive read aloud, The One and Only Ivan. We had an AWESOME DAY! At our weekly wrap up, we heard many, many students' high of the week was Ivan Day!
We started off our day with our traditional Friday, "Dance Party". Then we went right into our yoga set, "Jungle Yoga". We trumpeted like elephants, jumped around like chimps, swung from branches and even did downward dogs and cobras. We relaxed at the end by laying like sloths!
Next we created our line plot, showing the snacks we brought in for our special day. We discussed our data, and really thought about what our line plot showed us.
We enjoyed some art activities today as well. We finger painted like Ivan, and used crayons and markers, just like he and Julia did in the book.
Then we participated in a STEM challenge. Each team had to create the tallest free standing billboard, containing a message from the book. This challenge was MUCH harder than we thought, and nobody was able to get their billboard to stand. We discussed ways to redesign these, and realize that many of us were so focused on making our billboard TALL that we didn't think about making it stand alone.
For word work today, we played "Win, Lose or Draw" and "Charades" with words and characters from the book. We also had the chance to play an awesome word game, BANANAGRAMS.
UPCOMING CURRICULUM
After vacation, our journey across the United States will take us to the Midwest Region. We will finish our non-fiction writing next week as well. In the weeks following vacation, we will begin to learn about magnetism and electricity in science.
Enjoy your vacation! Have a restful time with friends and family.
