Our Week In Review

December has arrived!  We continue to be working hard in room 24! This week was full of fun events.
Fourth Grade Weekly Meeting

During writing this week, we began to learn about fiction writing. Students used this site to create a "fiction quick write" with a writing buddy.  The students had a great time practicing this new genre, and enjoyed the prompts.  Students are welcome to continue using this throughout our unit if they like.
Book Talks continue to be popular!

We have been reading a lot of non-fiction texts during our studies of Weather in Science, and Canada and Mexico in Social Studies.  We have discussed the various types of nonfiction, as well as the structure of the writing. We will continue to read nonfiction throughout the year.  Next week we will begin our second Interactive Read Aloud, Little Dog, Lost, by Marion Dane Bauer.

Mrs. Murray helps us to "Contemplate then Calculate"

We wrapped up our study of multiplication in math this week.  We will begin learning about division over the next few weeks.  Look for videos demonstrating how to use the "partial quotients method" (created by the students) for homework help, once they feel confident in their learning.  I will also be posting videos to help with homework (made by teachers), so that the students have a resource.  During math today we also began a project.  Teams of 3 students are creating a game. The game must be something that students can use to practice multiplication facts, as well as extending multiplication facts (20 x 30=1500), As we progress through this project, students may add division facts to their games.

We had a great visit from meteorologist, Danielle Niles from WBZ - TV.  We learned a lot about studying the weather, and about her career as a meteorologist.  She has to wake up at 2:30 AM!  If you didn't get to see our TV debut, check out the WBZ- TV Facebook page.  I'm told there is a video posted there!
