Our Week In Review

Our week was filled with awesome opportunities for learning!

We have continued learning about units of measurement in Math.  Students learned about the customary units of measurement, and we began discussing metrics at the end of the week.

During Social Studies, we have continued our study of the Midwest Region of the United States.  We learned about Mount Rushmore, creating a book,  with Mrs. Williams' class this week. We will have our open notes test on Tuesday.  Students received a study guide and vocabulary this week.

We have been learning about Animal Adaptations and continue to enjoy the inquiry based learning opportunities.  This week, we explored various beaks and feet of birds, and discussed how adaptations help the birds survive in their habitats.  Students will be on the lookout for different birds around Franklin, and will share anything they notice about the birds adaptations.

During writing we have continued to work on writing a story from a different character's point of view.  This week we moved to individual practice, with students reading a story about a seal's rescue, and then beginning to plan the story from the seal's point of view.  Students have enjoyed this mini unit of writing.

We are well into our latest IRA, The One and Only Ivan, by Katherine Applegate. The children have really enjoyed learning about Ivan and his life at the Big Top Mall. We have connected our science and reading with our animal observations.  The students have enjoyed looking at various animals throughout the world, and observing like scientists.

We have enjoyed planning for our green screen videos by researching our chosen topics.

Our week ended with a wonderful performance of our rap poems that were written during Poetry Workshop with Mrs. Williams.  What a wonderful way to celebrate our writing!  Stay tuned for a presentation with videos from the day.   Since the students used their names in their raps, they won't be posted here.
He planned and drew our poster for the performances all on his own!  What an amazing artist!

Indoor recess won't stop us from having fun!  Check out the creativity of our students!  At home they have created a football field and a basketball court.
