Well... we made it to the end of the week!  It was a busy one, filled with a lot of learning.  Some highlights of our week are:

  • Fourth Grade Meeting (and CHEER)
  • Holiday Speeches
  • Learning about Canada (we are working on Travel Brochures and will finish those after vacation)
  • Publishing Fiction Stories
  • Memory Poems
  • Book Talks
  • A Holiday Craft and Sing Along
When we return from vacation, we will continue with the dog theme, focusing on nonfiction reading, researching different types of dogs. We will also be focusing on watching nonfiction videos about dogs to assist in our research.

We will continue to learn about North America, with a trip to the United States.  During the next several months, we will study the different regions of the U.S., as well as Washington, D.C.  We are looking forward to our travels!

Celebrate Traditions!

One of our classmates enjoyed seeing the Christmas Tree Lighting in Boston with her family.  It was beautiful!  What family traditions do you have at this time of year?

Our Week In Review

Fourth Graders lined up silently by height
We had a great week in room 24!  In math, we completed our division unit, and the test was a big success!  Everyone has been working hard at mastering their math facts.  Keep up this practice!  Next week we will continue to work on some math projects, and review first term math skills.

To celebrate the beginning of Hanukkah, we read The Story of Hanukkah with the fourth grade, and made stained glass menorahs.

During Social Studies we have been learning all about Canada.  The students are enjoying learning about this culture.  We will be making travel brochures sharing reasons to visit Canada in class next week.

Sharing what we already know about Canada

Our fiction stories are coming along, and will be published and will be finalized next week.  We are writing memory poems in poetry workshop and Mrs. Williams tells me they are AWESOME!!! I can't wait to share them with all of you.
Discussing the theme of our story

During  reader's workshop, we finished reading Little Dog, Lost, and almost everyone rated it a 10!  Next week we will be  working on building stamina during independent reading, adding details to journal entries and on presenting book talks.

During Technology  on Friday, fourth graders had the opportunity to work on the Hour of Code. Everyone enjoyed this!  You can check out the available projects on the website code.org.

The cold weather has kept us indoors for recess a few times this week.  Hopefully this won't be a pattern!  One week of school left in 2017, it will be a great one!
