In reading, we finished up reading Little Dog, Lost. Students loved this book, especially the happy ending! We learned a lot about author's writing style while reading this book, and we are ready to use some of what we learned in our writing! In writing, we had a guest teacher, Mrs. Richards, on Monday. She connected our 3rd grade learning to what we are working on in 4th grade! We are finished (or almost finished) with our drafts of the next chapter in Claymates. Ask your child about this project, as it has been a favorite part of many of the students' days this week. The entire 4th grade will be researching dog breeds in January and as a kick off to our unit, we attempted to participate in a webinar with Jessica Kensky, author of Rescue and Jessica. The presenters were experiencing technical difficulties but archived their presentation for us to watch next week. It was fun to learn about service dogs and how they help people and impact our world.
Looking ahead in reading, next week we will be focusing on nonfiction text structure and features, and will use this information to read books during social studies. We began learning about Canada during social studies, and the students are really enjoying this! We will be creating a travel brochure about Canada next week. During techonlogy workshop on Friday, we traveled to Canada through Google Expeditions (Thank you Franklin Education Foundation and the JFK PCC!).
In math we finished division, and everyone did AMAZING on the assessment! Students should keep practicing their multiplication and division facts. We will begin learning about fractions after vacation.
We enjoyed a school wide PJ Day on Friday!
