In Science we wrapped up our study of electricity with our final engineering project ~ Light Your Way. Mr. Adams came and discussed the engineering process. We were assigned a task to create a hands free flashlight to use in a cave. We worked as a team and created our product. Then we worked at creating an advertisement for it. We presented our flashlights to the fourth graders.
In Math, we worked on a real life project involving fractions with Mrs. Murray. We had to decide if a situation was fair, and then present our fair solution to the class. It was a hard challenge, but we did great.
In Social Studies we participated in many year end activities:
- US Round Up Day ~ we learned about different National Parks, played some US states and captial games, and even mined for gold like the 49ers.
- Immigration Day ~ We enjoyed learning about Ellis Island and the struggles of immigrants during the early part of our country. We saw parts of the citizenship test, and we had an immigration speaker. Mr. Chaudhury came and spoke of his personal immigration story. He believes that Franklin is the BEST city in the US and JFK is the best school. We happen to agree!
- WE had an AMAZING time at the Amazing Race! Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer, Mrs. Masters, Mr. Matthews, and Mrs. Drake for helping us out. We searched for gold, lassoed cows, participated in a Native American foot race, shucked corn, built sand castles and put together Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speech. Thank you to Mrs. Masters for many of the pictures!
I loved my first day of school! I love my new teacher, and I have lots of new friends in my class! Your student, Sarah
