Our Week In Review

On Friday night, I had the privelege of attending Franklin High School's graduation.  I enjoyed catching up with some of my old friends!

Chris will be attending Mass Bay Community College, Christine will be studying photography at Lesley University, and Katie is headed to BU. What a great experience seeing my former students after 8 more years of hard work!

Even though our year is winding down, we still have many things to do!

In Math, we wrapped up our unit on Geometry. We worked hard at learning all of the new vocabulary.  We will continue to discuss some of this vocabulary as we move into our Line Designs and Tessellations units. These are both fun ways to wrap up Geometry and the school year.

In Reading, we have really enjoyed Reader's Theater as a way to read Charlotte's Web.  We can't wait to read what happens next with Charlotte and Wilbur.  We are working on some complex reading skills including character's motivation and author's message in this book. The children are rising to the occasion and beginning to do this independently.

We have been working to finish publishing some of our poetry so that we can have it ready to share with you at our Coffeehouse on Friday.  We are looking forward to it!

We wrapped up our visit to the West region last week as well. Mrs. Silvia from the Haffenreffer Museum came for her last visit. She taught us all about the Hopi of the West Region. We even made pinch pots!  As always, we are grateful for the JFK PCC for their funding of this awesome program.

Comparing the 4 different regions of Native Americans we have studied with our anthropologist.

We will be traveling to the Southwest this week, and will also be talking about Immigration.

In Science we are very excited to begin learning about magnetism and electricity this week.

Our week wrapped up with a FABULOUS chorus and recorder concert.  Mrs. Merten was so proud!  Below are some pictures and a video of the grand finale of the recorder show (Take Me Out to the Ballgame) and the chorus show (Hey Brother)!  The children did a fabulous job on this!  Look for the ORANGE shirts.  That is our class.
