Our Week In Review

What a week!

This week we began a Geometry project in math.  Students learned about parabolic lines.  They are working to create interesting designs using only straight lines.

In Science this week, our focus was on magnets and magnetism.  We did several investigations with students from other classes.  Your child should have a lot to share about this!

Rock Poetry Day was a HUGE success!  Music lyrics are a wonderful form of poetry and the students enjoyed analyzing them in a new way.  We listened to each song, and visualized the poetry. Each child created a visualization journal, which went home yesterday.  The children all did a great job.

During reading we have continued to read about Wilbur and Charlotte in Charlotte's Web.  We have been reading this story using the reader's theater model, and the children are enjoying "voice acting.  They are able to show so much understanding through their expression, and our class discussions have been rich.  Our focus has been on the characters, their motivation, and the author's message.  Students created a birth announcement for Wilbur this week.

Today we enjoyed a wonderful show funded by our PCC. Wally, the Green Monster from the Boston Red Sox came to JFK.  He and his buddy talked about the importance of reading.  We all had a great time!  Thank you PCC!

We are all looking forward to Tie Dye Tuesday on Tuesday!
