Our Week In Review

We were very, very busy this week, despite the short week!

We have continued to read Mr. Popper's Penguins during reading, with the focus on determining character traits of main characters, and supporting that with evidence, making predictions when reading, and answering questions about our reading thoroughly.  Students have been asked to use the predicting strategy during their independent reading, and to track this during the week on their reading logs. We reviewed this in school on Friday, however if your child has a question about how/what to track, please remind them to see Mrs. Merten anytime before Friday morning.

In Social Studies, we have finished the new learning about advanced map skills, and will have our first SS test on Tuesday.  In school we reviewed which materials the students should take home (their SS folder), and many chose to sign out a textbook and an atlas to practice finding exact locations.  All students received a study guide on Tuesday.

In Math, we will have our next math quiz, covering topic 1 ~ multiplication and division,  on Friday.  As a reminder, students should be practicing math facts regularly.  Check out our Curriculum Links page for computer sites that help with this.

We have been working together on creating Google presentations.  Though these presentations are not finished yet, your child can share his/her progress on their Google Drive.

From the teacher's desk:

Each day, the class has an opportunity to earn a "point" during our specialist time. This is earned for appropriate behavior, working together, and overall great listening.  Our class has earned a point at every specialist all year!  This is quite an accomplishment.  Students vote on how to use these points as a reward, and we had our first reward as an extra recess yesterday.  I wanted to share the unique way our class handled this recess.  Within a minute of being outside, they had organized a game, picked teams,  and had included everyone in our class.  Though a few decided to do other things, the majority did play together.  The kindness toward one another and the sportsmanship that I witnessed during this game was wonderful. It is certainly "blog-worthy".
